The North East Link Tunnels project

North East Link (NEL) is the largest investment in a road project in Victoria’s history. It will fix the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network between an upgraded Eastern Freeway and the M80 Ring Road.

Spark, a global consortium of some of the best builders in the world, has been awarded the contract to build the $11.1 billion primary package, the North East Link Tunnels (NELT), which includes 6.5km of three-lane twin road tunnels.

The Spark consortium consists of WeBuild, GS Engineering and Construction, CPB Contractors, China Construction Oceania, Ventia, Capella Capital, John Laing Investments, DIF and Pacific Partnerships.

NELT is more than just a road project. It is about connecting people and creating a space that benefits all users, not just those driving on the road, providing access to jobs, education, goods and services.

The project covers the full breadth of professional and trades roles and has adopted industry-changing social procurement, sustainability and environmental targets.

The Inclusive Jobs team supports recruitment onto the project through a range of initiatives including:

Supported employment programs, examples of which include:
- The Willan Inclusive Employment program – in partnership with Pathway Plumbing and Killara the program provides employment opportunities (with our valued subcontractors) for Indigenous jobseekers who are either Melbourne-based or based in regional Victoria.
- The Migrant Women’s Employment Program - a 14-week paid work experience program designed to give women local experience and access to local networks to kick-start their careers in Australia.
Recruitment to advertised roles across the project.
- Candidates can apply for jobs advertised by The Spark Inclusive Jobs team) Spark and its subcontractors.
- Employment service organisations can view jobs and recommend suitable candidates by assisting the jobseeker to ensure they receive any support required.
